I mainly use hotmail but I recently installed gmail due to a problem with hotmail. I use craigslist a lot, often just to ask a question. Postings in cl have a link to send a message. When I click on it my hotmail send to box automatically opens. I type in the message and send it. I have discovered that my emails are being directed to the receipient's junk or spam folder rather than to the inbox as it does for other people. I know this because I have received no responses and learned later from the recepient that the message didn't arrive in his inbox but junk box, so he didn't see it. How can I change settings so when I click on the cl send link my gmail comes up so I can send it that way. I've looked on ie, hotmail, gmail and I don't see settings that would address this problem. In control panel I click on Internet Options and under email accounts I get only 2 options, Hotmail or Outlook Express. Thanks for any input. Tom

It may be that you need to change the default e-mail client that is set within your browser.  You should be able to find the settings in Tools, Internet Options, Programs, assuming you are using IE.

I seem to remember you use XP and the option for gmail will not show up in Internet Options.

What browser do you use?

You may need to install either google toolbar or notifier so your computer knows you have a gmail accout and want to use it.

gmail notifier

or

google toolbar

An easy way is to install a local email client like Thunderbird and set it as your default email client.

Those web sites look for a local email client and don't always see your web mail email client.

If there are apps that allow web mail clients to be seen, its news to me.

I forgot to mention I do use xp and ie. I use firefox as my browser. I went into ctl panel and under internet options there are just 2 options: hotmail and outlook. You can't make any changes. You can't enter gmail or anything else. I dl notifier and tried to make gmail my default application by getting this instruction:

Making Gmail your default mail application

You can designate Gmail as your default mailto handler. This means that when you click on any hyperlinked email address, a Gmail compose window will open so you can send a message to that address from Gmail.

To do so in Windows:

   1. Download the Gmail Notifier.
   2. Right-click the Notifier icon in your system tray, and select Options.
   3. Check the box next to Use Gmail for internet mailto: links.
   4. Click OK.

Well, the system tray icon, shaped like a letter, does NOT have an Options selection. None of the selections has "Use Gmail for internet mailto".

What I will try is right click on the address in craigslist, copy the address, open gmail, insert the address into gmail and go from there. Thanks, Tom

Yeah, that latter thing is what I do in Craig's List, since I generally use
Inbox.com's webmail client.
