I think I ran into this problem a long time ago and gave up trying to find a solution. Nero has 2 burn formats, one for audio cd's and another for mp3, which has a lot more room. In the first you can arrange the sequence of songs how ever you want. In the 2nd you can't. You are stuck with the sequence that is sorted in Win Explorer. I could change the names of the songs in WE to arrange them in the sequence I want, such as putting an A in front of the first, B before the 2nd, etc. But that takes a lot of time. Is there an easier way to change the sequence once they are in the list in Nero? Thanks, Tom

Since no one wants to respond to my important post I will do it myself. This is what nero sent back:

Windows offers various display options, e.g. by creation date. However, the ISO-CD or ISO DVD standard requires that files are sorted alphabetically.

A CD/DVD that is played on a standalone player (e.g. a DVD player or MP3 player) will be sorted and played in alphabetical order.
This can lead to unwanted results, particularly with MP3 discs or with discs containing JPG files because file names may not necessarily be in the desired order. These is a restriction of the ISO Standard.

You have the following options to define the file order:
1. Use a special disc format
2. Adjust the file names
3. Use playlists

1. Using a special disc format
Use a disc format other than ISO disc. These other formats have the ability to play files in a specific order. The disc format for music files is "Audio CD". Pictures can be converted into a slideshow and video files can be written to (S)VCD or DVD-Video. Depending on the method you have the option of adding details such as crossfading between music or pictures, setting chapters, or adjusting the track length. The problem with these formats is that the playback time is limited (Audio CD aprox. 74 min, VCD 45 min, SVCD 25 min, DVD-Video between 1 and 6 hours).
You can create an Audio CD with Nero Express, Nero Burning ROM, or Nero StartSmart. Slideshows can be created with Nero Vision.
Please note that files will be transcoded to the necessary format.

2. Adjusting the file names
If you intend to write files to the disc in the original format (to edit your files later) you can edit the file names so that they appear in the desired order. The easiest way to do that is to add a number at the beginning of the file name. Please note that alphabetical sorting takes place similarly to a phone book, i.e. numbers will be read digit by digit from left to right. The number "1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 20 would be ordered as follows: 1, 10, 11, 2, 20, 3. It is therefore necessary to use one or more zeros ("0") at the beginning of the file name.
The file list for an MP3 disc would appear as follows:
001_The Logical Song.mp3
002_Breakfast in America.mp3
003_Give a little bit.mp3

For pictures:
01_At the Restaurant.jpg
02_On the beach.jpg
03_Driving home.jpg

This numbering method works for any file type.

3. Use of playlists

Playlists are very popular, particularly for MP3 discs. A playlist contains information about the location of the file and the order in which files are to be played. The most commonly known file formats are M3U and PLS files. The manual for the device you are using should tell you which playlist format is supported. Unfortunately no equivalent "playlist format" for JPGs could gain a similar acceptance.

All manuals for Nero 6, Nero 7, Nero 8, and Nero 9 can be downloaded from our web site:
